This was going to be a test of my wolf, hell, a test for me, too. Two nights and three days with three shifters from Kiba and a vampire, the now ex-teacher of Port Willow High, Mr. Donovani. Fuck⦠Galen. I really kept messing that up. Just hard to call your teacher⦠old teacher, by his first name after all that time.
I was in the backseat of Lexiâs new âfamily car.â Seven-seater. Every seat was taken and shifters werenât known for their small stature. It was a tight squeeze, even with the girls in here.
âFucker, Noah should be in that spot,â I heard Ranger whisper under his breath. My wolf had been on edge the whole drive, wanting to jump out and put Ranger in his place. I didnât listen to my wolf, I kept him at bay. But when Ranger mentioned that I shouldnât be here, again, I growled. Lexi spun and looked at me and Ada pulled my arm.
âPlay nice,â she whispered, and I saw Rangerâs shoulders shaking up and down as he hid his laugh. I was playing nice, but this fucker was pressing my buttons. All of them. He knew it would get a rise out of my wolf.
âAda, Huxley is very well behaved. I canât say that for my packmate, Ranger,â Mr. Donovani called from the driverâs seat. I smiled at the kind words as Ranger put his hands up. He turned to Lexi as she hit his shoulder with the back of her hand. Maverick chuckled but took that as his turn to have her to himself. She moved away and snuggled into his embrace. Ada rubbed my hand and mouthed, âSorry.â I kissed her forehead and held her close.
âHe shouldnât be here is all I was saying,â he grumbled out for anyone wanting to listen, his arms now crossed over his chest. He glared out the window.
âNo, you shouldnât be here if youâre going to be like this. You said it was done, you wouldnât do this anymore. Itâs done. Ada can choose her own mates, Ranger. You donât pick for her. She is a grown-ass woman. Start respecting her or you will be sleeping on the floor,â Lexi raised her voice. It was kinda scary. Okay, it was a lot scary. I sat back in my seat and tried to be invisible in case she yelled at me. I didnât want that, I wanted Lexi to like me. She was Adaâs best friend and I knew how much they meant to each other.
Ada took a deep breath beside me and laid her head on my shoulder. I could smell her fear, her sadness⦠worry. That didnât sit right with me. Ranger shouldnât be making her feel like this, he would be able to smell that too. This was Adaâs special trip with Lexi. We were just along for the ride. I had watched the Twilight movies the last two nights before the trip just so I could really understand what it was we were looking at and be excited for her.
